Ranger

Ranger was born in 2002 and spent the first many years of his life as a racehorse. Registered as Bar Road, he raced 5 times, coming in second and third once each. His claim to fame that Sarah likes to tell people is that his sire is a full brother to Unbridled, a Kentucky Derby winner.

In 2009 after Ranger's racing career didn't take off he found himself in a feedlot in Zillah. Sarah saw his ad and went to look at him. She liked him, had a vet out who said Ranger didn't seem fully sound, and Sarah took him home anyway.

It took a year or two to get Ranger into good shape again and to stop his nervous habit of rearing at the mounting block. He was track broke, but didn't know much else and certainly didn't know how to jump.

Ranger and Sarah never really competed but the did jump at home up to 4' before Ranger had a suspensory injury.

Ranger was on walks only for about a year before getting back into work. He did get back to jumping low heights but primarily Ranger became a trail horse. In 2018 Sarah and Ranger went to Cashmere for a Mountain Trail Horse class. Ranger tried to jump over the bridge and shallow water but soon learned to walk through and over them!

When Chris and Sarah bought their first house, Ranger came to live at home and fulfilled Sarah's childhood dream of having a horse in the backyard! Ranger and Sarah rode and jumping in the pasture and in the neighboring lots before they were developed. They also rode all around endless farms fields and orchards. It was always fun to take the dogs and go for hours. They came across the occasional coyote or dirt bike, but mostly it was quiet peace.

As of 2026 Ranger is primarily retired. Sarah grooms him, stretches him, gives him lots of treats and they go on a rare ride.
